Hi Guys

I was bound to happen :P
A tyre thead

Anyone had any of these and what are your opinions.

KU36 - $165each - Tempe tyres
KU31 - $150 each - most places
RE001 - $220 each - Jax quickfit - Price unconfirmed though

Have heard that the KU36 doesn't last as long as the others - they look awesome though

Do you recommend any others within that price range?
I'm looking for a quiet, grippy & long lasting tyre.

Thanks

Hmm that makes the KU31s pretty good value.

I have the KU31, mike has the KU36.

KU36 have better dry grip, worse wet grip. Tread rating 180.
KU31 have better wet grip, great dry grip. Tread rating 320.

Tread rating is how deep the tread is, and how long it will last.

The KU31 are a competitor of RE001. (street comfort tyre, with enough performance)
The KU36 are a competitior of the RE070. (street-semi-slick)

Which one do you get?

Tracking the car: KU36
Daily driver: KU31
Daily driver, being cautious in the rain, and not caring about replacing sooner: KU36.

The KU36 is the better tyre, just wears faster, and you need to be a little cautious in the wet.

As i dont track my car, and plan on the tyres lasting me ages, i opted for the KU31.

Slippery tyres would make a gear box last longer when launching as well :P

Thats a good price on the Eagle F1 i'm pretty sure. From memory, i compared those to my current tyres whilst shopping a while back, but ended up with Dunlop SP Sport 3000A - also wanted non directional tyres to aid with minimising road/tyre noise (for stereo listening purposes) and i'm more than happy with that choice. :)

Cash left over now for this amp? :P haha! PM is coming your way.

Hehehe :D
That's what I've had for just over 2 years dunlop 3000a... Cost me a bit more though..
Should be interesting to compare.
280 wear rating on the f1 which is not bad
A quick google showed that a lot of people like them...hopefully I will too

Yep, the Eagle F1's are a good tyre, nice and sticky, a good mate of mine has them on his Turbo TX3 Laser and still manages to light them up in that thing - its a damn quick car!

In the end though, the aggressive V pattern on the symmetrical/directional design turned me off because they are more prone to wind through the V and therefore increased general tyre/road noise, which is something i wanted to minimise as best i could.

To get off topic for a second, you'd be surprised as to how crucial tyre choice is when trying to quieten down a car. The main thing that should be considered is decoupling your car from the road to minimise any noise transmission from the road itself whilst you're travelling along. Things like making sure you get good quality non-directional, silica based tyres - which is a tough compromise in itself because you want sticky tyres, but the idea of behind using silica in tyres is to have less resistance to the road which increases fuel economy, comfort, etc). After tyre selection, upgrading/replacing factory suspension bushes etc also help contribute from disconnecting your car's body from the road and therefore reducing the transmission of noise from the road into the car/cabin.

For me, the Dunlop 3000A were the perfect compromise to achieve that, whilst also maintaining a good quality tyre that will stick when i want to give them a bit of a hard time! :D How did you find yours under hard driving etc?

Hey Frank what size tyres?

im running re001 now n love them (1 track day).

Only prob is that they are quite expensive. im most likely going to try ku31 next (are ku31 decent enough to do 1 or 2 track days?).

and in regards to the ku36 tread wear. how fast are we talking? 20k km?
