V Mount would be great. On my to do list. You can also reverse intake manifold for front mount to shorten up the piping but have to lose the AC as pictured in the top photo.

Front mount is the best

Ok I added some information to back up my comment... Where's yours?

That article is a crock of shit bro, only a fool would believe that

The "advantages" and "disadvantages" section is just dumb...Where is actual data comparing the 2 types, recorded intake temps tested under all weather & driving conditions at various powel levels ???

So, you think having a FMIC is just trying to be cool, gives upto 1000rpm of lag, & your engine will be damaged in a front end collision ?

With in reason I'm not to fussed about price.. I still have a bit of coin left from the purchase, I guess the reason I was thinking fmic cause they look tough poking their little nose out. But in terms of performance I'm thinking the tmic. Hmm guess some thinking is in order.. While we are here anyone got a hks ssqv at all or ya reckon turbos art plumb back? Sorry bout all the questions guys I'm just real hungry to learn "insert hungry face here"

No point looking tough if you can only punch as hard as a 10 year old girl.

Those are words of a desperate man who has nothing to back his shit up

I like the look of a fmic and I can see where one would be more efficient at the track but that article makes a lot of sense as well..

Who, the writer of the article or me!

I can't be bothered breaking it Down & pointing out every retarded comment, shit would take ages. The main prob with it is the lack of info, all it does is talk up the tmic & makes out that a FMIC is worthless.

Track/ street don't mean shit either. I can't see any negatives regarding FMIC. Tmic on the other hand..has limited internal flow, limited entry/exit sizes, limited core size, heats up like an oven every time you stop, and lays almost horizontal with a restricted entry area (scoop).

Front mount eliminates all these limitations, the lag thing is bull & the safety story is bull too...what's the difference whether the core or bar reo are there, it's the radiator and fans that make contact with the engine on impact.. Doesn't matter what's in front!

Ive had abit of experience with the two.
i went from stock top mount to a HDi FMIC. good intercooler didn't have any probs. little less throttle response but can hardly notice.
i sold it and got an APS massive tmic as they were so talked up, and i thought i would be good to have less attention from the boys in blue.
the aps was a piece of junk compared to the HDi fmic, heat soak and loss in power and driveability.
i got rid of the aps tmic pretty quickly and bought a hyperflow monster fmic and haven't looked back, hyperflow make great fmic kits.

so in my opinion fmic is the only way to go, i think you would be wasting your time and money going a larger tmic.

What is the advantage of a V Mount over a normal front mount? Is it an expensive job?

Is that because it sits above the radiator? Would the front bar end up blocking a fair bit of airflow?

The 2 major advantages are: The intercooler doesn't block airflow to the radiator (traditional locations have been linked to cooling issues with high power track cars) & the IC piping is vastly shortened (will give minor off/on throttle response..respectively)

Costing will vary, i'd be happy to do it for $3K :)

I have a top mount Sti intercooler of an 06 sti for my 05 club spec, its great picked up for a song of $250! practically brand new. does wonders for my ride! Been told that front mount was for prolonged periods of driving and race apps, top was for everyday general boosting and driving lol!!
Peace Shane

Hopefully the Spec C TMIC that I bought will do the job better than that little thing I have on top of the engine. It's going into a My07 WRX.

After finally fitting my ProcessWest TMIC on the weekend, i recommend them. After sorting out an additional custom heat shield for beside the turbo/under the cooler, as well as water spray, i think its definitely a worthwhile upgrade.

For now, the main difference i've noticed is smoother throttle response and boost holds a bit better through the rev range. I expect to see better results etc once other supporting mods and a retune are completed!
