This has probably been asked many times but I can't find any definitive answers that an STI intercooler is better/worse than an aftermarket TMIC? Also is a SPEC C TMIC any better? I have searched and searched but can't find any clear reliable results. I'm trying to figure out if I can justify spending $1000 on a aftermarket TMIC or spend $500-$600 on a used STI TMIC. I'll have to get a splitter aswell because it is going into a 07 WRX. If I can save money by buying a used STI TMIC cooler then I can by other goodies for the car. I'm doing the usual bolt-on mods like TBE, CAI, Fuel pump, Turbo. LOOKING for close to 200KW. Car is mainly used a daily driver.

For 200kw, go for a second hand sti one mate. Good to 250kw. No need for anything else really.

To further answer the question, some aftermarket ones are larger and thicker so better for cooling. Not worth it for ur power level tho. I got 200 with an sti cooler, no issues

Yeah but how efficient is the STI at cooling the inlet temperature?

Now I got to find one. I did have one but it didn't fit :( So I had to sell it.

Go an aftermarket one. I'm sire you could find a second hand one somewhere. Maybe someday in the future you might like more power, and you wont want to fork out more money for another intercooler :)

I got a felling that the spec c tmic is NOT going to fit properly. Why? Cause the Spec C is DBC-Drive by cable. The 06+ WRX/STI are DBW-Drive by Wire and are larger than the DBC. Oh well....

Ok got the Spec C TMIC today. As I thought it didn't just bolt up properly. But with a little brawn it might just go in. I was thinking of making the holes in the brackets where they mount on the engine a bit wider so it can give me a bit of slack. Then it might just fit. I thought of milling a bit of the TB or IC outlet too.

Oh I wish it would just go in!

It is a really tight fit but I thought of moving this cable. What is this cable?

I thought of milling a bit of the TB or IC outlet too. The ruler shows that it is 13-14mm off but if a move the bracket around it might just fit. Very tightly I might add.

Isnt there a silicon hose from the outlet of the intercooler into the throttle body?

There is, but i think he's just showing us that it lines up and will fit 8-)
Those cables that are now tightly against the TMIC, just cut then off, you dont need them

I'm wondering about if the air splitter which is a 07 STI air splitter, will it align properly when the bonnet is closed?

Also I have brought but still am waiting for it to arrive, a STI strut brace. Will that fit?

Another problem is the AC line is half way over the passenger strut tower. Would it be safe to bend it?

Its a twinscroll TMIC from JDM ver 8, what shears the same 1 pc intake manifold also. The main problem you have is that is for the last ser of the cable TB and the loom harness for the motor is different to the DBW(drive by wire) the DBW has there hard plastic cover what is also mounted to the intake manifold and the Ver 8 TMIC doesn't have the cut out in it to clear the wiring. remove the have plastic and push the wiring loom down and it will fit.

The splitter should align fine..
STI brace im not sure about, but i would imagine it fit just fine considering its a genuine piece? It has to fit around the TMIC :p
And dont bend the AC line.. it shouldnt get in the way of the strut brace.. mine doesnt - it fits over it.
