Pull the rear transfer case out, center diff slides out and gets replaced by the RWD spool.

Front driveline then spins freely doing nothing while all power goes to the rear, had one in STI for close to a year, look at the pic below :!: ;)

Could always get some old front drive shafts and take off the inner joint, remove your drive shafts and just put the inner join back in. Make sure to clean all grease out of the joint

Is it possible to fit a S14a or R33 Gearbox & diff? And all the other bits and pieces

Anythings possible if your willing to throw enough money at it. The money it would cost to get everything modified to fit your better off just buying an r33

Unless you do something about the center diff, the car will not move !!

Why is this? Sorry fairly new to awd. I figured you'd still get power to the rear wheels?

Without front drive shafts, the center diff is not strong enough and will spin freely like an open diff, thus no drive at all and the need for a PPG spool to replace the center diff if you want rear wheel drive

All AWD subarus have the center diff. Its what takes the power from the gearbox and send it to the front and rear.

Hence a Driver Controlled Center Diff (DCCD) allows this separation to be altered.

I'd never buy a R33, they're butt ugly

But, does anyone have a more helpful answer?

If you have an r160 rear end. dont do it.

Been there, done that.

I went through 2 diffs, 7 drive shafts/cvjoints and 2 sets of rear tyres. in about 3 weeks

If you are dead set on it, get a 6 speed and an r180 rear end, hence why Pablo hasnt had any trouble yet (that he's mentioned anyway)

Huge amounts of fun with the short final drive, lots of wheelspin but r160's aren't upto the job

No trouble ?

Take less than 6 months to snap an axle, 10 months to strip the gears off the rear diff, shattered a CV cage and then i went back to AWD. Now have a Cusco Tarmac Gear in the car and its a great compromise to RWD and AWD.

RWD is great fun and would love to do it again if/when the driveline is strong enough. The one bit of advise i can give to those thinking about it is this...put the CHEAPEST tyres on the rear you can find !! Will help to take the strain off your rear end ;)
