Ok, so now my current system is working again (Many thanks WRXSTI02).. i also now have a free amp.

Current setup:
    Boston S60 up the front
    10" sub in boot
    Cadence 100W RMS x 4 amplifier

Sounds good, but naturally i want more.. so as i dont have any speakers in the back, i want some on the parcel shelf. Was thinking another set of the Boston S60's as they are awesome and take heaps of power.. But where would i put the tweaters?
I also have another 100W RMS x 4 amp to power these :)

Suggestions? Dont want any more bass, there is plenty already.

I'll take a photo of my rear parcel so you can see where I placed my Tweeters.
I've read that speaker matching is good to avoid frequency cancellations so same brand is good.
I suggest 1 amp to power the 4 speakers and then 1 to power the sub if you can make it 1 channel?

Yeh ill run the speakers off one.. and sub off the other.
Just need to determine which would be best for the speakers..

JBL GTO75.4 or the Cadence F600-4

And yes, photos would be awesome please :) Easy enough to install?

It was difficult to cut the holes straight on the parcel tray and the steel rods that lift the boot get in the way of the speaker magnets so had to place some pieces of hard foam like cubes to hold the parcel tray high enough to avoid that but when the back seat is on you cant tell..
Also, the child restraint things are slightly off to the side of the existing holes where the magnets go through so had to remove them and cover with a piece left over from the holes... didn't glue it well enough so they came off... still looks alright IMO.

It wasn't easy but it can be done.. main factors are speaker depth, tools to cut the holes and speaker cover size.

Cool!
I bought another set of Focals for the rear so they match (currently have infinity which sound too different so its difficult to balance) and changed my sub to a Rockford Fosgate -- Still have the dam headlight dimming problem though... I've upgraded the alternator & chassis wires & the ones that go to the amps and plugged a capacitor as well so I'll be changing my battery next.

The factory earthing system in Subaru's is really poor. Good gains can be had from adding a few earths around the engine bay here and there.

I haven't heard of or read this though. Essentially, all speakers will play pretty much the same frequencies of sound - i.e the audio spectrum, as a generalisation; 0hz - 20khz. Its the design/make/cone material/tweeter material/etc that will determine how a speaker sounds compared to another one, so generally cancellations wouldn't occur for this reason.

Cancellations can potentially occur from phase issues or frequency overlaps, but not from having two different brands. :)

I have connected 2gauge from Batt (-) to chassis and another to engine then chassis to amp is also 2gauge

Yeah I've read stuff but you know the internet and misinformation :)
What happens on my current set up though is the rears are louder and more harsh I guess due to the speaker characteristics so they drown out the fronts... so I figure I'll try the same types and give these other ones to my dad.

You not got the backs turned up too much?
I had the same issue with my old falcon.. adjusted the levels a bit and it sounded much better.

Yep, those earth upgrades should be a good start. Hows the results?

As for the rears being a little more harsh, it could be to do with the tweeter firing directly at the glass, or also something as simple as mismatched gains (i.e. the rear gains being higher than the fronts) which would be more noticable if the speakers have different sensitivity ratings etc. May seem simple aswell, but fade forward a little?

Still dims with the earth upgrades :(
I had the music on last night on 20% volume for about 1 minute (with the engine off) and the car struggled to start this morning.. so I'm thinking the battery is too old

I have the gains on lowest for the rears and the fader at around 80front/20rear..
I think it's those tweeters though, (plus the sensitivity rating) they're very bright so when I adjust my 8 band EQ (30 band soon :D ) for the fronts, the rear sound bad.. If I reduce the highs then the front suffers..
I might be going about this the wrong way, but I thought that if I connect the same type speakers Front & Rear to the EQ I could then tune them evenly?

Have you considered putting the tweeters in the rear quarter plastics if theres room
so that they fire towards the front of the car, not just straight up?

Nah didn't think of that... will see how difficult that is this weekend.
