Hey people,

has anyone changed their rear door speakers?

im thinking of changing them now and not sure if i should go 6.5 coaxials or something smaller...

I always thought the rear doors would only fit a 4" speaker? they are pretty small back there..

Kurt Managed to fit 5" if i remember correctly?

I have alpine type s' in the rear they are 4".
My mate (who installed em) said you can fit 5" in the rear with a little bit of fiddling around.

No chance of getting 6.5" in there though.

How do the type s sound in the rear ?

To make a 6" fit would require cutting metal !!

But i wouldnt mind changing my whole setup to something a bit better further down the track.

I havent done a set of rear speakers in one of these yet (often people choose to invest that money in 'better' front splits and good installation, including sound deadening instead), however from memory they are indeed OEM 4", and you can squeeze 5.25" in there with a little modifications of mounts and the door trim.

Dont quote me on that though, as im not 100% certain. Ill be sure to post back some concrete information for you guys if i ever do one. Though it looks pretty well covered by you guys that have had experience with it anyway.

When I had the rear door speakers connected I couldn't hear them loud enough to make any difference and I think this was due to the location... I decided to install 6.5 inch splits on the rear parcel instead which was difficult but managed to squeeze them in.
Had to lift the parcel a little with foam bits so the magnet wouldn't touch the boot metal rods... looks good and sounds ok but need better speakers...

Finally got around to installing some JBL 5.25 inch splits in the rear doors. havent tuned it correctly but they sound good with my 6.5inch focal splits in the fronts.

Gotta hear your system now, Gilly. Didnt think speakers in the rear doors would make much of a difference, hence why mine arent even connected.

If everything goes well I'll be coming along to the cruise but need to sort out a couple of things first.
Will be interesting to hear different setups.
I only had the stock rear speakers so maybe yours would sound good.
