My current situation:
when I change gears, it feels rough and notchy.

Previously I have used the redline stuff fir the box and it did wonders regarding the feeling of each change. Recently I changed the oil again, but doesnt feel the same as it did with the previous change (smooth) and feels very notchy.

My question:

how do I make the feel of each gear change smooth again?
Could it have something to do with the bushes?

Recently I was told that the shifter required some greese, but I'm not too sure if that is true.

Ps. I didn't know what to put as the thread topic, so I hope it makes sense for future references.
Thanks

Peter

The bushes and transmission mounts have alot to do with the overall shifter feel

Sweet, ill try changing the bushes.

quick question:

do i need to find specific bushes for it? or bushes that suit the 5 speed would do? i have a gfb short shifter if that makes any difference.

Usually the softer OEM bushes will give you a soft feeling shift so if thats what you have it is probably the short shifter.

You could try greasing the bushes also

Pretty sure any bushes will fit... I bought a short shifter with bushes and ill have to go under the car to fit the bushes... I hope they make it smoother too as my gears are also a bit notchy at times...

i also had a gfb short shift in my old 04 rex, had it on the shortest throw and did find a increase in notchyness, maybe set yours to the middle throw if you already have it on the shortest, i learned to live with it as i loved the short shift

Well I installed my short shifter and it felt ... shorter... installed the front and rear bushes and the gear change now feels more precise :)
Bushes made a good difference :)

You have to get under the car to remove the rod that holds those bushes.
