Yep, this can be done with Electronic Contact Cleaner too.

I cleared the ECU Error Code on my car by simply cleaning the MAF (or AFM i think it is in mine?) and replacing the air filter.

Was giving code 23 before, now its all clear. Idle is smoother and doesn't fluctuate anymore. :)

MAF and AFM are the same

Mass Air Flow meter
Or
Air Flow Meter

You might be thing of a MAP sensor, unless your running an aftermarket ecu you wouldn't have one of those

I got told in the MY98s they have MAF and in the MY99-00 they have AFM, i know theyre essentially the same thing, though mine looks different to the one on my sisters MY99. Not sure.

I cleaned it, it fixed the error code, idle is better now, i'm happy. lol.

Eh?

When you say run rich u mean after you have cleaned it? how are you judging its richness?

Shouldnt run rich, shouldnt run lean. Both are bad for an engine in excessive amounts, but of the two i'd prefer rich over lean

Hmmm. how long does it take to dry? after u spray the shit out of it, do u just leave it in the sun or something to dry or just place it straight back in?

Most of the spray evaporates, but i left mine in direct sun light for about 20 minutes before reinstalling it, just to be sure.

You can also use Subaru upper cylinder cleaner, works a treat and then use the rest in your engine.Done it for years with no problems.and a dam site cheaper and has a duel use.(also cleans MAP and strip down your TB to clean it and TMIC)
