I recently bought some 18x7.5" wheels with 215/35-18's but I don't think my gearbox appreciated it very much. I noticed as soon as they were fitted the first 3 gears didn't engage like normal, notchy, especially 1st - 2nd.

As soon as I put the stock 16x7" back on, it was fine again?

Has anyone else noticed when changing to larger rims?

I'm now thinking of going 17x7.5" Rota Boost's with 215/45-17's, is anyone running this combo on a GC? Without any problems?

Cheers :greetings-waveyellow:

I changed from 215/35/18 to 215/45/17 yesterday, and first impressions are that the car is straining more on the 17s.

Apart from that though am loving the 17s ride quality is sooooo much better with the larger profile tyres. Also feels much more reassuring that they now meet load ratings.

Notchy gears? Changing to larger tyres makes them heavyer, making alot of things change on the car, the notchy feeling could be a side effect of this.

Can you explain in more detail the problem? Does it go away after the car is warm? Try changing the diff and gearbox oil.

I changed from 16's to 17's and I cant say I noticed notchy gears, My car is notchy when cold but is fine when warm. I've got money down that its the gearoil i use, redline shockproof LW.

Time to start slipping that clutch maybe?

I ended up getting the 17" Rota Boost wheels, no notchy gears now :character-spongebobdance:

When I had the 18's, 1st-2nd-3rd felt like the gears wern't engaging properly. Like if you were trying to push the gear stick in before you had pushed the clutch in properly. And it wouldn't snap second.
