Hey Guys,

How much am i looking at for a 6spd STi box (non DCCD) to fit into an 05 wrx?
What do i need to fit it and anyone know what they are brand new & a good price on second hand one.

Is this a good price or too much for a gearbox only?

Its just an idea as im chasing a bit of power down the track.
Dont want a dog box so 6spd is my only real other option.

I'm doing the same thing mate, finding as much info as i can. If i go with the STI 6 speed i will be getting a DCCD one.

How much power are you looking at running?

For now only about 180atw, but when that bottom end says enough around the 220 mark.
Im assuming the DCCD will be more expensive, right?

I would say it is more expensive. Your 5 speed should handle 220 if you treat it right. But would be good to have the 6 speed to know it will definitely handle it.

It might not then. I have heard of some WRX's running that amount of power and more on a stock 5 speed.

But if you are planning on alot of launches and hard shifting then the 6 speed would be great.

My mates gone through 3 stock boxes in his classic... and that was with about 170atw.
He now has a semi dog box in it and he reckons 2nd gear is on the way out lol

Speaking about boxes, what box is in the 03-05 shape? I have heard that they are the STi box out of the classic. Anyone able to confirm this? I would really love to put this to bed as ive always wondered but never really done anything about finding out.

I guess it all comes down to how it is driven. 3 stock boxes is alot before upgrading.

True that but he rarely launches it. Does snap gears pretty hard though but still.
Hasnt had much luck with that car.

Yeah that happened to a mate of mine a few years ago, he used to snap through the gears and then one day it broke 2nd and 3rd gear. He had to dive it home with 1st, 4th and 5th.

For 180kws stick with the 5speed, they are good for 220kws, just dont expect it to be a racing box, treat it right.

As for the crunch, go buy some redline light weight gearbox oil, that should sort it, if not, your up for some repairs.

Look up all the DIY's on the gearbox conversion, it'll give u a list of parts you need.

Dog box isnt your only option btw, You can get a straight cut Syncromesh gearset. That way you also have the sound of the straight cuts :P

You can break any box with stock power, and if you do then you know your doing something that you shouldnt of been doing, am I right? Mechainical Sympathy man...
