Hey guys well since ive started my build yesterday as such i thought i would put up a build thread for a future reference, now since i havent got alot of cash laying around im trying to do things on the cheap side but not too cheap(if you know what i mean)it all started with the QR charity track day where i did a big end bearing :(
Image
dont lnow if you can see it but it's on the right of the pic
so after a $380 tow from there to my house(75km away :( )it was clear i needed a rebuild,
Image

now for those that don't know, i have a V6 STI, is(wont be for long) pretty much stock apart from a pod filter and a 3inch exhaust from the cat back and some gauges ive installed...oh and the removal of the Brant with a viper alarm system, so anyway with a few mates in high places ive aquired a closed deck 2L block that just needs to be checked over and cleaned up :)
Image

with help from my mate Dave and my mate Dean we pulled the old EJ207 out of the poor carcus that is my car
Image
Image
Image
Image
now the engines out wevw started pulling it apart to see what is still good to use, im going to upgrade pistons(wiseco) and rods(maybe eagle rods)ACL race bearing and ARP headstuds, going to need a new intake pipe as i broke my stock 1 pulling the inlet manifold off(woops i TOTTALLY didnt mean to :) )thinking i might keep the crank and the STI cams just to save a bit more cash, i know for sure 2 out of the 4 cams are good, still have to take the other 2 out, the cank is coming out wednesday when i get a bigger spanner  also im going to go with a FMIC and get a ECU tune with a unichip and that would be it for now :)

i'll post up some more pics of the old girl :)

thanks mate, well dor turbo i might keep the VF28 for now, as for power i'd be happy with 200kw, ive seen alot of 300kw cars break parts alot and i dont want that, pretty much what im looking for os built like a brick s&%thouse and goes a bit harder then stock :)

Mate for less than $900 you can get a brand new STi 2.5L 52mm journal crank, brings your cubic capacity to a stroked 2.2L, this will offer more scope to make more power later on, I wouldn't take a chance on putting a crank in there that's just done a big end.

Your problems are far from over, Ild also take you crank to some one that can modify for better oil flow to bearings, while there get your ACL race bearings modified as well, wiesco will do the job for pistons but I'd be checking out other rod options, there are heaps better ones out there, this depends on your power out put you would like to achieve.

wel thats pretty much what im gonna do, im gonna take the crank to get it checked out to see o=if it is all good, as for the 2.5l 52mm journal crank, is that all you need to do to make it 2.2L? i thought there was more that had to be done??

You need to get your cases modified to take a center thrust bearing, cheap mod, less than $200.

Leemo will chime in soon with some handy tips, who's screwing this together?

So whats the current partlist for new motor ?

I'd think it over, you don't want to be one of those left saying "i wish i did this, i wish i did that"

I have a GC8 STi ecutek 3 ecu here if you want, but i'd only sell on exchange bassis

Agreed. Particularly if you have another car to drive for now. I wish the bloke that built my engine before I bought it decided to spend a little bit more and put cams and rods in!

well im still thinking of parts but im certin on the wiseco forged pistons, Acl race bearings and ARP headstuds, the rods i might see what else there is and the crank is a maybe with that 2.5 52mm crank that davesti said, just depends how far i wanna go........... umm what else, need new silicon intake pipe, ill get that from MY00, want to get a black Fmic from factory instead of the DIY home job ones and then i need a ecu cause i want a tune. and i bet as this goes on the list will grow lol

I can talk from experience, been through 3 rebuilds trying to do a budget builds!!

Look after bottom end first, you have a good (well hopefully) closed deck 2L, great platform to work around, don't go pov on the crank, ditch your old one and just buy a new one, you don't want to do another big end, I can tell you now, more big ends go from rebuilds than stock engines, get the clearances right and modify everything you can to get more oil to those bearings, that's the key dude, get that one right and you'll be sorted.

CremeFraiche, he said he might go weisco pistons and eagle rods using ARP's and ACl bearings, standard cams.

Hey NadoB, while your at it, split your fuel rails and go bigger injectors and fuel pump

hmm thats fair enough with the crank, yeah was also thinking about the fuel pump and injectors, dunno how big cause i dont want massive power, speaking about oil, there was a myth i heard yesterday that when u do a oil change, you fill it up to the top level on the dip stic then put 500 ml in to stop this from happening??? can anyone confirm this?

that's the problem i had. i wanted to go all out and make it industructible, but due to being unplanned, budget was a problem and the wrx was the only other car i had, which i needed for work and uni. For that reason, i had to get it back on the road asap which limited me to what i can do for the build. So in the end, i just put in an ej207 and hopefully that would last long enough for me to save up some cash and do a proper build in the future.

Just a update, pulled the heads off lastnight and inlet cam number 2 was being a lil biarch to come out, but after some time and choice words to my cam, she came off, i thought this would be a oppitunity to lay some claims ive heard to rest, i jeard by some that the V6 STI had a semi closed deck, well they actually have a open 1, as i found out
