Aka the shitta
and a story of high's and low's of owning a subaru

Image
Image

slow builds to the car over the years when i first brought it
first set up i did for it was in 2002 when i got it and fitted in the workshop known as my garage
VF22
Xforce headers
Xforce 3" TBE
intake pump
samco intake
exdy piggy back(junk)
hyperflow FMIC
my old PAR 5sp from my legacy
195kw@17psi Ran out of inj, this was useless under 4000rpm but dam fun after that.(funny thing is that was high end power back in 2002..lol)

Image

Well after that i grabed a NA ser 2 block of Al and started on that as i wasn't happy with the power(bottom end)
so i striped down that motor and sent it of to Robin at PMS to do
1/2" headstuds
closed deck
100mm CP's
eagle rods
AVO 450
SARD 650 inj
MRT ruel rails
massi fuel reg
ported 01 wrx heads with JDM Ver 7 sti cams

this is where i also fitted the 6sp 04/05 sti C spec box also

Im in the mean time i decided to go for a spin on a 40 deg day and give it a little to much and poped a head gasket, i kept on driving it for the next 3 months keeping water upto it and oil changes.
One day i decided to go to Brisbane in it and gave it a gut full to over take a truck, well funny thing is someone put a hole in the piston and it dropped comp right there and then and thats the end of that

So then went in the the 2.5 above and retune with crappy piggy back 240kw@24 psi with the ecu struggling to keep up with the inj's.
So we binned the piggy back and fitted the M800 and a retune to 252kw@20 psi, more boost made power...so onto the next set up

Image

Image

Well we traced the problem with no more power down to no enough spark so then Robin fitted a MoTeC CDI with mercury out board coils and then no retune as the missis had the car and we were building some new heads for the motor, but b4 we got to there...bang split the std bore liner of the 2.5..so onto the next steep

same block fitted with sleeve's
JDM ver 7 sti heads
1mm OS intake valves
2mm OS exhaust vales
PMS rally spec cams
titanium retainers
HD valve springs
PMS adj cam gears
twist mount GT35R with .82 housing(this was big turbo in 2004)
50mm waste gate
GT headers
once run in it now made 280kw@ 22psi ran out of inj
(mock up on dummy motor)
Image

run in tune
Image

Image

Fitted some 1000cc inj with reverse intake manifold retune and jumped to 306kw@22 psi and run out of pump.

Image

Image

The week after the tune i went on a w3xn3t cruze and has some spirited highway driving with Kev and Aaron and had a big miss gear with open throttle will over 9500rpm and after that oil pressure at idle would drop to 1 BAR, so i riped out the oil pump and fitted a 12mm subaru oil pump what i hoped fixed the problem..it didn't

Image

2 weeks after this we went to a dyno day down at chiptorque at the gold cost and the car did 295@22 psi with a power drop what can be from dyno to dyno... so nothing taken from it.

2 weeks latter got bored 1 afternoon so i fitted a 1.01 exhaust housing and retune and we got 311kw@20 psi ran out of pump.

Image

Image

still with pump problem..but it wasn't the pump

So the next step was on, but b4 that i decide to go to a skid pan day with a mate for shits and giggles..
well about 4hr's in to the day the car come to a screaming halt..and was going no where fast
car wouldn't start so i was thinking starter was jammed..wrong
she was locked up and this is why.

Image

Image

Image

First part of the shitta's life..a lot more to it..more to go.

Kris

That is some story mate.
Loving the wheels.

So what caused that damage in the last photos?
Fuel mixture? Oil pressure?

bent a valve while missed gear, as well as popped a bearing out of the crank gernal( ball bearing is pressed into hole's after crank oiling hole's are drilled. well 1 popped out and grabed the alloy in the block and alloy went through the motor. just took 4 weeks to kill it.

Crank is now taped with grub screw's to fix that problem, these heads have also been fixed and modded abit more and 102mm bore's to fix bore damage.
the steel and alloy firing back into the inlet manifold damaged all 4 cyl's...

up date tomorrow with part two of the ricer of death.

Kris

Yer Andy said Davo's a good driver(and a PIMP with the ladies)

I just have to fix 1 very very small air leak on 1 side of the itb's its just movement in the TB shaft on the O ring. so i will fit bearings at both ends(only at 1 end atm like std TGV's) and fit all new seals with them,TB's are smooth but they need them to be perfect.
Make the std subaru TPS adjustable as its out atm and hook up the surge tank and duel 040's.
they only run it in on the dyno as they wont put any boost into it as air leak "pops" and TPS so 10 psi is all they gave it.
10psi is like getting a hooker and whacking of in the corner..its sad but at least its back on the road after about 4 years.
Its not bad for 10 psi i suppose. But as you know these precision turbo don't come alive to the high 20's.

Dam i missed out on the cool 200kw club

High 30's on E85 would be nice. just that there is no E85 at the pump on the sunny coast.

I don't know why ppl pay with crappy old garrets & BW anymore GTX hello 1980's

Classic, what price are you boys getting these Precision turbos landed here in Oz?? might conciser one of these rather than getting my turbo fixed.

Good to see your shitter going Kris, although I don't think I should be saying "Shitter"

I want a Precision now :(

Its always been called the shitter or the another house or the money pit.

Mate i brought mine years ago now from AWD motorsports i think it was $1400 AUD inc taxes delivered with a tial 44mm gate also in the price. NOW i would say cheaper and i would go 1 step further than the garrett GTX stuff as they have about 3 years in trails and wank dyno and drag numbers on there product...garrett and BW are trailing behind alot of other company's on billet turbo's.

You could never do that to your wagon Andy, just make it RWD.
